As a member of Georg-August-Universität Göttingen you can publish your scientific work worldwide in open access and in print via Universitätsverlag Göttingen. Details are governed by the usage regulations ("Nutzungsordnung"), which came into force in January 2015.

The university finances the basic operation of the publishing house and shares the costs of their publication projects with the authors and editors. In the case of book projects, this requires user-side production cost subsidies. In the case of journals and other periodicals, it is decided on a case-by-case basis whether and how the publishers will share in the costs incurred. In order to provide you with the approximate amount of this subsidy for your book publication, please fill out the Query of costs form. The final cost will be based on the production-ready manuscript and any special requests in the publication process.

Your publication (e.g. dissertation or similar) might also be suitable for applying for a printing cost grant? Please find more information on the following pages: How to afford the printing cost subsidy?

To create the online and print edition of your book project, we need a PDF document that is ready for publication. Our "authors’ toolset" is available for this purpose. We would like to ask you to use the templates accordingly to make the work easier for you and for us.

In the University Publishing House Göttingen there are three divisions of publishing categories. The "Universitätsdrucke" scientific works of solid quality, the peer-reviewed division "Universitätsverlag" for works of higher quality and the division "Varia" for special publications of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen for which the responsibility for content lies with the university as a corporate body.
The quality level of your work determines which division your book project will be assigned to. If the quality level allows for the division "Universitätsverlag" and author and publisher agree to do so, your manuscript will receive a peer review by our editorial board or external reviewers after the formal file review. In the case of the sections "Universitätdrucke" and "Varia", we only carry out a formal check of the file.

In parallel, we work with you on the design of the book for online publication and printing. This is done in the corporate design of the university, with individual design spaces for the authors and editors.

Once all criteria for publication have been met, you will receive the final files and a proof of the book. Once both parties have reviewed it, final approval will be given for publication online and in print.

After publication your book will be made available online open access on our website, endowed with a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). We also report your work to important databases and catalogues (e. g. GVK, DNB). The printed version will be listed in the "German Books in Print" ("Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher - VLB") and with Amazon.

The long-term archiving of the full text version is carried out by reporting the files to the German National Library (DNB).

We recommend our authors to register an ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) for themselves already with their first publications in order to be clearly identifiable and authenticatable in the scientific context. An ORCID iD offers scientists the possibility to clearly assign their own publications and to make them easier to find. Moreover, the ORCID iD always remains the same in case of name changes or changes of affiliation, which is especially important at the beginning of a scientific career. Based on unique author IDs such as the ORCID iD, publishers and libraries can also offer additional information about authors and their publications, such as links to references in Wikipedia or national bibliographies.
